The Goji Berry
Goji berries have traditionally been regarded as a super food for centuries. They grow in protected valleys in ancient soil untouched by any man-made chemicals. The plants grow like bushes with vines that reach over 15 feet in length. The berry itself is a deep red colour, similar in size to a sultana and tastes like a cross between a cranberry and a cherry. The berries are shaken onto mats then dried in the shade and are not touched by hand as they will oxidize and turn black if touched when fresh.
A new laboratory test known as ORAC (oxygen radical absorbency capacity) was developed by USDA researchers at Tufts University to rate the antioxidant levels of fruit and vegetables. The Lycium barbarum (goji berry) from the Ningxia province of China was found to have by far the highest levels of antioxidants.
Goji berries contain 19 types of amino acids, 21 trace minerals, very high levels of antioxidants, vitamins C, E, B1, B2, B6 and E. They are also a superb source of vitamin A and essential fatty acids. In addition, they have anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal and antibacterial properties. Many of the legendary health-giving properties of the goji berry are today being confirmed in modern scientific studies and this has led to the possibility of even more far reaching benefits.
Goji Skin Essentials has now harnessed the renowned benefits of the goji berry in a new range of skin care products which contain pure organic goji seed oil. The oil penetrates deeply into the skin stimulating blood circulation and helping skin metabolism. It reduces oxygen free radicals and helps prevent premature aging and UV damage of the skin. It can also help to reduce skin pigmentation and uneven skin tone, along with hydrating the skin to increase elasticity, promoting a smooth and supple complexion.
